Rising Stars: Meet Sabrina Rabhan
Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Rabhan.
Hi Sabrina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Senior care has been a part of my life since I was a child. It not only is a job, but it is also a lifestyle. Helping those who paved the way for all of us is so humbling. There is almost nothing we go through that a senior has not experienced either personally or globally; from loss, failure, professional success, failure or pivot, a pandemic… you name it, they have seen it, lived through it, and survived it.
I grew up visiting the nursing facility my grandparents owned. They came over to the United States in the early ’50s after barely surviving the Holocaust. Their entire families were wiped out. I had an aunt and uncle I never had the pleasure of meeting or even seeing a picture of; they were shot in their home as little children in Hungary with their mother after my grandfather was arrested. My grandparents were introduced in a Displaced person camp after WWII and, after many a love letter from my grandfather, they wed. They settled in Chicago, IL.
On my grandfather’s journeys, he noticed several older folks in the same spot every day, in the same clothes, and they all seemed to be waiting. (This reminds me of Dr. Suess’ ‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go’ waiting room). He became friendly with many of them. He realized that none had anyone to assist them in any of their daily activities (read our blog at www.BuckinghamSouth.com for more info), and they went to the park to meet their children in the small window of time off they had.
